Training for Textile Care Professionals

Classroom instruction and hands-on learning

Classes for the cleaning and textile care industry

Pettyjohn’s School of Textile Care values hands-on training. We believe a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on learning is one of the most effective ways to learn a new skill and leave class confident in your ability to use it.

Our courses are built around the knowledge we’ve gained through years of working in the cleaning industry. We want to share not only the technical information behind textile care, but also the practical experience that comes from doing this work every day.

Learn It. See It. Do It.

There is a difference between learning how something should work and actually doing it yourself.

Our classes combine lecture-style instruction with demonstrations and hands-on training whenever possible. Students have the opportunity to learn the principles behind a process, see it demonstrated, and then put that knowledge into practice.

Our goal is for you to leave class with more than the information needed to pass a test. We want you to leave with a better understanding of the work and the confidence to apply what you’ve learned when you get back home.

Who Are Our Classes For?

Our courses are designed to benefit people throughout the cleaning and textile care industry. That may be a technician who is just getting started, an experienced cleaner wanting to expand their knowledge, a business owner looking to better train their team, or even an office staff member who wants to better understand the services their company provides. You don’t have to have years of experience to benefit from a class. You just need to be interested in learning more about the work we do.

In-Person Training

For now, our courses will be offered in person only.

We feel strongly about giving students the opportunity to ask questions, see techniques demonstrated, work with equipment and textiles, and learn alongside other people in the industry.

Online options may be offered at a later date, but hands-on education will remain an important part of what we do.

What We Teach

Our educational programs will focus on the different areas of professional textile care in which we have experience, including:

  • Carpet Cleaning (IICRC CCT)
  • Upholstery & Fabric Cleaning (IICRC UFT)
  • Area & Oriental Rug Cleaning (IICRC RCT)
  • Specialty Textile Care

As additional courses become available, class dates and registration information will be added to the website.

Why Pettyjohn’s?

Pettyjohn’s has been caring for textiles since 1989.

Over the years, our family and team have cleaned thousands of carpets, rugs, upholstery pieces, and other fine textiles. We’ve trained technicians, worked through difficult cleaning situations, made mistakes, learned from them, and continued to improve the way we do things.

Pettyjohn’s School of Textile Care gives us an opportunity to pass along some of that experience.

We certainly don’t believe there is only one way to do everything in this industry. Our goal is to teach sound principles, share the methods that have worked for us, and give students an environment where they can ask questions and learn from both the instructors and one another.
